Toddler Program
The
Toddler Program provides an environment carefully designed to meet the unique needs of children
aged 18 months to young threes. The classroom can accommodate up to ten children and is outfitted
with furniture and learning activities specifically selected to foster curiosity and independence
for children of this age bracket.
Taught by a certified Montessori toddler teacher and teaching assistant team, the goal of the
program is to create a nurturing and secure environment where young children can explore,
create, and grow as individuals. Routines are simple, with an hour long morning activity period;
a group snack during which the children are involved in all steps of preparation and clean up; a
period of outdoor play focusing on cooperation and large motor skills; a secondary learning/activity period;
and finally group time with musical games, sharing, and read-aloud books.
A child's mind is most absorbent during the first three years of life; therefore the environment
contains a balance of gross motor development, fine motor development, language skills as well as
practical life and sensory activities. The teachers monitor each child's interests and progress
daily to ensure appropriate activities are presented when the child is ready.
Finally, never forgetting the importance of building emotional security and establishing positive relationships,
a lap is always available as a warm place from which to watch or as a physical presence which assures the child
that the world is to be trusted.
